Complex Needs Teaching Assistant - Satellite SEN Provision (Merton, London Borough of Merton)

Schedule: Full-time (Monday to Friday)
We are recruiting a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a brand-new specialist satellite provision opening in September 2025 in Merton. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team providing high-quality, tailored education for pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex needs.
About the Role:
As a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs including:
Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
Learning delays
Associated behavioural and emotional needs
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs
Assisting with personal care, communication aids, and sensory regulation strategies
Supporting teachers in delivering a therapeutic and engaging curriculum
Helping to maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for all pupils
Working collaboratively with therapists, support staff, and families
About the Provision:
Located in the London Borough of Merton, the provision will open with 40 pupils in the first year, growing to 80 places over three years
Pupils and staff will transition into a brand-new purpose-built SEN Free School in September 2028, which will cater for up to 120 children aged 4-16
The curriculum will be a blend of academic learning, life skills, and therapeutic support tailored to individual learning profiles
The setting will support children with a range of complex needs in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with children or young people with complex learning difficulties
Knowledge of Autism, SLCN, sensory needs, and/or trauma-informed approaches
A calm, patient, and resilient nature
Willingness to support with personal care and manual handling if required
A strong belief in inclusive education and a commitment to helping pupils thrive
Requirements:
Full-time availability from September 2025
Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Relevant training or qualifications in SEN (desirable but not essential)
