South West Surrey Domestic Abuse Service (SWSDAS) is looking for an Outreach Worker to support adult survivors of domestic abuse across Waverley and Guildford Boroughs. The successful candidate will also take the lead in advocating for our Surrey wide LGBTQ+ service. You may be part of the LGBTQ+ population or an LGBTQ+ ally with an understanding of LGBTQ+ needs and the impact of discrimination.
You may have experience of helping those who have been affected by abuse or other trauma. You will use your compassion and listening skills to provide emotional and practical support and help survivors feel safe and empowered. The role includes providing risk assessment, advice, advocacy, safeguarding and liaison with other professionals for example Police, Social Services and Local Authorities. Full training will be provided.
We have built strong links across Surrey, raising awareness of our LGBTQ+ service that supports members of the LGBTQ+ population across the county. This includes creating a better understanding of their needs and challenges when affected by domestic abuse. You will continue this networking and advocacy work including training other professionals. You will be a strong communicator and confident networker and able to understand and professionally challenge the views of others.
SWSDAS provides free, independent and confidential advice to anyone affected by domestic abuse living in the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley. We are a partner within the Surrey Domestic Abuse Partnership. We are a proud member of the Employer's Domestic Abuse Covenant.
We believe that life should be safe and fair for all LGBTQ+ people and this role is intended to provide an LGBTQ+ specialist within the Surrey Domestic Abuse Partnership. We support all victims and survivors of domestic abuse living in our area no matter what their age, race, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or class.
You will be working 18 hours a week as part of our team of over 20 staff based on the edge of Guildford. The salary shown is for a full time, 35 hour per week role. You will be paid pro-rata based on 18 hours per week. The days of the week worked will be agreed. You must have a driving licence and have access to a vehicle as some travel across the county, including in rural areas, will be required. This position requires an enhanced DBS check.
