We are excited to offer an opportunity for a passionate and experienced neonatal nurse to join our dynamic and compassionate team as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP). This role is central to delivering high-quality, family-centred care to neonates requiring Level 2 and Level 3 support across our neonatal services.

Main duties of the job

·Working independently on the medical rota (TIER 1/TIER 2 depending on level of expertise and clinical area) to provide 24 hour care as required, with clinical supervision provided by a Consultant Neonatologist.

·Holding the emergency bleep for labour ward calls, attending at risk deliveries and carrying out basic and advanced newborn resuscitation where necessary.

·Carrying out the examination of the newborn prior to discharge, making appropriate referrals and instigating treatment when required.

·Independently prescribing medications within legal requirements.

·Utilising contact opportunities with babies and their families for health education and health promotion.

·Collaborating with other agencies in determining specific service requirements and working to improve health outcomes

·Maintaining competencies in the procedures relevant to neonates

·Coordinate, lead and manage the activities of clinical environment on a day to day basis.

·To use excellent prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service

·To develop own managerial and administrative functions in conjunction with role developments

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, you will be an integral part of the neonatal medical team, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to neonates requiring Level 2 and Level 3 support. You will work autonomously and collaboratively with consultants, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure optimal outcomes for neonates and their families.

1. Act as a clinical leader and role model within the neonatal team.
2. Support the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
3. Participate in service development, quality improvement initiatives, and audits.
4. Contribute to workforce planning and rota coordination where appropriate.
5. Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to junior staff, students, and trainee ANNPs.
6. Deliver teaching sessions and contribute to the ongoing education of the neonatal team.
7. Maintain own professional development and revalidation requirements.
8. Communicate sensitively and effectively with families, providing updates and involving them in care decisions.
9. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including midwives, obstetricians, paediatricians, and allied health professionals.
10. Support families emotionally and practically, signposting to relevant services when needed.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

11. Registered Nurse/Midwife
12. MSc in Advanced Neonatal Practice
13. Mentorship course or equivalent

Desirable criteria

14. NLS Instructor
15. Advanced Communication qualification
16. Independent non-medical prescribing qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

17. Extensive neonatal nursing experience

Desirable criteria

18. Previous ANNP experience
19. Membership of special interest and professional groups.
