What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting radiological safety assessments to ensure compliance and safety.
* Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, safeguarding our technology.
* Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
* Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
* Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
* Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel.
* Developing ALARP justifications to support informed design decisions.
Your Skills and Experience:
We’re looking for candidates who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, including:
* A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
* Demonstrable experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
* Familiarity with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
* Experience with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

The Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Join a dynamic team responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across various submarine programs at different stages of the engineering lifecycle, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. Our team also conducts radiological safety studies, designs novel radiation detectors, and develops capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
