Job overview

Swansea Bay UHB Infection Prevention & Control Service is looking for a motivated, forward thinking NMC registered nurse who is committed to ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care to service users, and has a desire to become part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team.

This will be a permanent position with full time hours (37.5 hours, Mon-Fri 9-5pm, excluding BH). The post will initially be based at Morriston Hospital, but there is an expectation to work on all other sites across the organisation including acute and community settings of Swansea Bay University Health Board according to service demands and also as part of a planned rotation to gain experience in specialties across the health board. This post will have a particular focus on community settings.

The role involves traveling between health board premises and within the community setting to provide advice, support, education and audit in relation to IP&C. It could involve transporting training equipment, such as the hand hygiene Glow box and PPE training supplies, between health board sites. Therefore, the ability to travel independently between sites in a timely manner is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT) to provide an integrated service in all health delivery settings including Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care, Mental Health & Learning Disability.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and within their level of competence alongside the wider team. The role includes providing advice and support to staff on all aspects of infection prevention and control including equipment decontamination. You will also support in the delivery of education and perform audit across the service groups. You will visit clinical areas to provide advice in regards to managing outbreaks of infection and, patients with an alert organism.

You will gain valuable experience working collaboratively with many staff disciplines and you will be in a position to influence others, supporting best practice through positive role modelling. As a member of the corporate nursing team, you will be providing assurance around the quality and standard of care provision being delivered ensures a positive patient experience and that safe systems of working are evident to protect staff, patients and visitors from infection risks.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse & current NMC Registration Bachelor’s Degree
2. Specialist post graduate qualification or equivalent experience
3. Proficient level of knowledge in clinical specialty. Knowledge of service improvement
4. Able to undertake a literature search and critically appraise research papers

Desirable criteria

5. Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
6. Advanced clinical skills
7. Non-medical Prescribing

Experience

Essential criteria

8. Relevant experience Experience in the relevant specialty
9. Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
10. Experience of working with preregistration nursing/midwifery students in a mentorship role
11. Experience of undertaking audit

Desirable criteria

12. Experience of participating in research
13. Experience of participating in practice change

Aptitude

Essential criteria

14. Able to demonstrate effective leadership and management skills
15. Be able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others using good communication skills
16. Evidence of undertaking presentation to groups.
