Role: Functional Life-Skills Tutor
Location: Brighton and Hove
Contract: Part-Time
Start Date: Ongoing from September 2026
Daily Rate: £100 - £135
Supply Desk is working in partnership with specialist SEN schools and alternative provisions across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking dedicated and engaging Functional Life-Skills Tutors to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people in developing essential skills for independence and everyday life.
About the Role
As a Functional Life-Skills Tutor, you will deliver tailored sessions focused on developing practical, social, and independence skills. You will work with pupils who may have ASC, learning difficulties, or complex needs, helping them to build confidence and prepare for life beyond education. This role is ideal for someone passionate about holistic education and making a lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging and practical life-skills sessions tailored to individual needs
* Support pupils in developing independence, communication, and social skills
* Plan and adapt learning activities around functional skills such as budgeting, cooking, travel training, and personal care
* Work closely with teaching staff to align sessions with EHCP targets
* Support emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour strategies
* Encourage confidence, self-esteem, and participation in learning
* Create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all learners
Candidate Profile
* Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly ASC (essential)
* Background in education, youth work, coaching, or support work (desirable)
* A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to engage and motivate learners with diverse needs
* A genuine passion for supporting independence and life readiness
Requirements
* Relevant experience working with SEND or in an educational/support setting
* Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
* Two years’ worth of professional references
* Eligibility to work in the UK
