Salary: Starting Salary is £56,730 (Level one) rising to £60,125 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

Nottingham is a city with enormous potential—and we’re looking for an exceptional Economic Strategy Manager to help shape its future. This is a senior leadership role at the heart of the Council’s economic development function, responsible for driving the city’s economic vision, policy direction, and strategic partnerships.
You will lead Nottingham’s Economic Strategy function, ensuring that our priorities are evidence-based, forward-looking, and aligned with the opportunities emerging through devolution and the East Midlands County Combined Authority (EMCCA). About the Role

You will lead Nottingham’s Economic Strategy function, ensuring that our priorities are evidence-based, forward-looking, and aligned with the opportunities emerging through devolution and the East Midlands County Combined Authority (EMCCA). This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in a complex policy environment and is confident working with senior leaders across government, business, academia, and the wider region.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Economic Strategy Manager, you will:

1. Lead the Council’s Economic Strategy function, setting policy direction, developing service plans, shaping business cases, and coordinating major funding pipelines and bids.
2. Drive engagement with Nottingham’s business community and partners, including convening and managing the Nottingham Growth Board to deliver a ‘Team Nottingham’ approach.
3. Represent the Council with senior national and regional stakeholders, including DBT, MHCLG, DWP, DfE, universities, and especially East Midlands County Combined Authority (EMCCA), ensuring Nottingham’s priorities are positioned well within devolution and supporting members through briefing and advice.
4. Support the development and delivery of projects and programmes that stimulate business growth, innovation, and economic resilience across the city.
5. Manage and develop a team, providing leadership while fostering a high-performance, future-facing culture
6. Oversee high-level economic intelligence, including analysis, benchmarking, and reporting that informs senior leaders and elected members.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, collaborative, and influential leader with:

7. Demonstrable experience in economic strategy, policy development, and partnership working within a complex environment
8. Strong capability in economic research, data analysis, and evidence-based decision-making
9. A track record of delivering strategic responses and shaping policy within multi-agency or regional partnerships.
10. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to brief senior leaders and represent the Council externally with authority.
11. Experience developing services aligned with local priorities, including equality, diversity, and inclusion.
12. A proactive and collaborative mindset, able to navigate ambiguity and lead through influence.
