Data Centre Engineering Operations Chief Engineer, ARN- DCEO
As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You are expected to be a focal point for all facility operations and to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
You should be capable of managing large-scale impactful projects and supporting new regions from conception to completion. These projects involve independent work and collaboration with external support groups, including engineering, automation, procurement, and finance, in both local and global settings. As Chief Engineer, you will create and deliver key milestones, obtain and track quotes for costs, and document project results for future implementation. The goals are to drive innovation, resiliency, and reduce operational costs.

Key job responsibilities
1. Train and support the Engineering team in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and operations.
2. Implement and execute site or equipment-specific training exercises (e.g., generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers).
3. Oversee daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
4. Operate independently with limited management oversight.
5. Assist in designing and building new facilities and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
6. Act as escalation point for facilities issues, supporting site stability, including working OT hours as needed.
7. Troubleshoot and report facility and server-level events within SLAs.
8. Create and deploy standard practices for engineering operations and vendor support teams.
9. Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and staff.

A day in the life
* Manage operation and maintenance of equipment in data centers.
* Execute projects of basic complexity.
* Escalate facilities issues timely.
* Perform troubleshooting and report high-criticality events.
* Support junior and peer engineers.
* Oversee third-party vendors ensuring safety and best practices.
* Utilize administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and assets.
* Work flexible shifts up to 12 hours, possibly rotating.

Minimum qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
* 3+ years of Data Centre Engineering/Operations experience.
Preferred qualifications
* 6+ years of operations and on-call support experience for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
* High/Low Voltage Authorized Person (AP) experience.
* Knowledge of network design, low voltage cabling.
* Project management experience.
