We are seeking a dynamic and motivated senior oncology nurse who has completed, or is currently completing, qualification as an ANP to cover maternity leave in our team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the oncology ANP's to provide expert advanced clinical care throughout the patient's oncology pathway in inpatient, day care and outpatient settings and to develop the paediatric nurse led sedation service working within the MDT to provide safe effective sedation care to children who require scans and procedures.
Main duties of the job
The ANP role will work collaboratively with the clinical team caring for children and young people undergoing treatment for malignancy. This post is aimed at developing ways of working for senior cancer nurses as an ANP within the Children and Young People’s inpatient, outpatient, and day unit; enabling them to take on roles and responsibilities that complement the current services delivered by medical teams. The ANP practices both autonomously and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, utilising their clinical and nursing experience, knowledge, and skills in oncology to develop and promote excellence in the delivery of medical and nursing care. The ANP plays a pivotal role in providing essential continuity of competent, comprehensive, and coordinated care for children, young people and their families from time of referral, through treatment and to long term survivorship care.
The ANP will integrate into the existing oncology team to carry out extended roles which will include routine management of children and young people undergoing oncological treatment. Using advanced clinical decision making and assessment skills, the ANP will assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of children and people undergoing treatment.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide clinical leadership and maintain credibility through practice and professional update.
2. Practice evidence-based nursing care to ensure high quality care.
3. Act as an expert nurse and resource for patients, families and staff.
4. To work autonomously having accountability for decisions made complying with the NMC Code of Conduct
5. To work within the Trust’s Policies and Procedures and the parameters set down in agreed local clinical protocols and guidelines as well as national guidelines such as NICEm CCLG
6. Ensure that documentation is maintained to the Trust Standard (including electronic records)
7. Maintain and develop own repertoire of advanced clinical procedure skills including peripheral blood sampling, cannulation, non-medical referrer for imaging, bone marrow aspirations and other clinical procedures where there is an identified gap in the service.
8. Prescribe medication within own level of knowledge and competence and within the scope of the Trust’s Policy for Non-medical Prescribing qualification.

Essential criteria
9. First level registration / degree in relevant subject
10. Possess a Cancer Specialist qualification
11. Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Post-Graduate Diploma
12. Or on advanced practice pathway (Trainee ANP Band 7 post until qualification)
13. Non medical prescriber qualification, or willingness to complete
14. European Paediatric Advanced Life Support Qualification, or willingness to complete

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
