Lecturer in Engineering Ref S85/25 Date of JD June 2025 Salary (£) £30,000 - £39,495 per annum (plus £3,067 Threshold and £1,596 Deane Payment if applicable) Reports to Head of School, Engineering & Science Location To be determined Hours of work The annual hours are 1440 of which up to 828 for student contact time and the remainder for associated duties. However, the post holder will be required to adopt a flexible approach (including evening work) and to devote such time as may be required by the exigencies of the service JOB PURPOSE To become a member of the teaching team in current courses of study and assist with future developments. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Deliver and promote training and teach on a range of programmes leading to the award of up to Level 5 qualifications. Liaise with Industry to develop courses which match industry needs. Fulfil the role of class tutor with administrative and pastoral responsibilities. Develop ILT resources appropriate for teaching and learning in the subject area and promote the use of library and resource centres. Review and evaluate quality of provision in line with IQ:RS and awarding body requirements Assist in delivery of staff development in specialist areas to college staff / Participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance own knowledge, skills and professional competence needed to carry out the role effectively. Review and evaluate provision to ensure quality assurance in all areas. Contribute to and participate in marketing, recruitment, induction and other appropriate events. Co-ordinate programmes of study. Participate in subject team meetings and in school team meetings, including the leading of team meetings. Contribute to the co-ordination and organisation of educational visits and work-based learning Contribute to the development of new full-time and part-time engineering related courses throughout the School to meet the needs of the workforce and other relevant stakeholders. Liaise with employers, Awarding bodies and other collaboration groups. To mentor students for competitions Complete as required all administrative tasks associated with the post. Any other duties as required by the Head of School and School management team. NOTES 1. This is a description of the job as it is at present constituted. The duties and responsibilities are intended to give a broad indication of the variety of tasks the post holder may be asked to undertake. In carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the post it is expected that the post holder will do so in accordance with the College Ethos Equal Opportunities Policy and that in doing so the post holder will contribute to the discharge of Section 75 statutory duties and implementation of the College Equality Scheme 3. This is a post which is governed by The Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults (Northern Ireland) Order 2003. The College operates a no smoking policy and all staff are expected to adhere to this 5. In order to deliver its objectives, the College has developed to the following set of values and all staff expected to work within these; Solution focused Excellence driven Responsive Collaborative All staff at Deputy Head of School Level and above (including staff on NJC Terms & Conditions, band 6 and above) are required to participate in day, evening and holiday cover rotas as required. All Staff are required to contribute to a healthy and safe working environment and to adhere to all health and safety regulations and College policies. All staff have a responsibility for ensuring that risks are managed at College, team and individual level. This process will include the assessment and effective control of all acceptable risk situations All Budget holders will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a balanced budget across their area of responsibility, including the delivery of any agreed cost improvement programmes. Staff will be expected to participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance their own knowledge, skills and professional competence needed to fulfil the role effectively. Please note that a waiting list may be created from this post from which further appointments may be made should the same or a similar post arise within six months of the interview date. Please note such posts may be based at any College Campus.
