The Founding Director ( 1 role ) of TEDxTrafford CIC will play a key role in helping establish, shape and govern the Community Interest Company as it is set up and developed.
This role is not about day-to-day event delivery alone. It is about helping to build a strong, credible and sustainable legal and governance structure that can support TEDxTrafford’s long‑term vision, community impact and future growth.
The Director will work alongside the Founder and other Directors to support the incorporation of the CIC, strengthen governance, contribute strategic oversight, and help ensure the organisation is well‑positioned for partnerships, funding, sponsorship and sustainable development.
About TEDxTrafford CIC
TEDxTrafford CIC is being established to create a platform for ideas worth spreading, community connection, learning, innovation and positive social impact across Trafford and Greater Manchester.
The CIC will support the development of TEDxTrafford as more than a one‑day event, creating opportunities for public speaking, youth voice, leadership, community engagement and partnerships that contribute to social value and local impact.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Legal Formation
* Support the incorporation and establishment of TEDxTrafford as a Community Interest Company
* Contribute to the development of the CIC’s governance structure, purpose and strategic direction
* Help ensure the organisation operates in line with its community interest purpose and legal responsibilities
* Support good governance, accountability and sound decision‑making
Strategic Oversight
* Help shape the long‑term vision, priorities and sustainability of TEDxTrafford CIC
* Contribute strategic thinking on growth, structure, partnerships and impact
* Support the organisation to balance creativity, community purpose and operational credibility
* Provide constructive challenge and guidance to support sound leadership decisions
Community Interest and Social Impact
* Help ensure the CIC remains focused on delivering meaningful community benefit
* Contribute ideas around inclusion, accessibility, education, youth development, leadership and local engagement
* Support the development of initiatives that align with TEDxTrafford’s social purpose and public value
Partnerships, Funding and External Relationships
* Support the identification of opportunities for sponsorship, funding, partnerships and collaboration
* Open doors where appropriate through networks, introductions and stakeholder relationships
* Act as an advocate for the organisation and support its credibility externally
Financial and Organisational Stewardship
* Support responsible oversight of the CIC’s financial sustainability and organisational development
* Contribute to discussions around income generation, grant readiness, sponsorship and long‑term viability
* Help ensure that decisions support both mission and sustainability

* Networks across business, public sector, education, culture or community sectors
* Experience in law, finance, HR, partnerships, strategy, social impact or operations

Time Commitment
Quarterly board meetings, plus occasional additional meetings during set‑up and key development phases
* Ad‑hoc support, advice or introductions as appropriate
* Time commitment to be agreed depending on the stage of development
Qualifications
* Leadership and strategic planning experience, with the ability to guide and inspire a team.
* Event management and coordination skills, including experience in organising large‑scale events or conferences.
* Strong networking and partnership building capabilities, especially in engaging sponsors, stakeholders, and collaborators.
* Exceptional communication and organisational skills, with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
* Passion for ideas, public speaking, and inspiring change within a community framework.
* Prior experience working with non‑profit organisations or volunteer‑driven initiatives is a plus.
