Industry Support Officer

An opportunity has arisen within the Research and Development (R&D) Office of the Trust for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Industry Support Officer based at Regent Point, Gosforth. Situated within the Newcastle Joint Research Office (NJRO), which supports both The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Faculty of Medical Science within the University of Newcastle, you will be part of a team ensuring a prompt and efficient service to researchers across both organisations. You will support feasibility, monitoring and coordination of local site set up processes (including support services, costing and contract negotiations, resource allocation) and assist the Trust Industry Manager in providing the local interface between Investigators, Industry, NHS sites, and ensuring that the Trust supports commercial clinical research consistently and reliably.

The Industry Support Officer must have exceptional organisational skills and highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to respond positively to change, contribute to developments and work as a team to support others as the organisation grows.

Responsibilities

* Support feasibility and facilitate coordination of local site set up processes (including support services, costing, contract negotiations, resource allocation).
* Act as the local interface between Investigators, Industry, NHS sites, and ensure the Trust supports commercial clinical research consistently and reliably.
* Provide organisational and communication support, respond positively to change, and contribute to the growth of the organisation.


Qualifications & Education

* Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience/training in clinical research.
* Advanced knowledge of terminology used in clinical research (post‑graduate level equivalent).
* Evidence of continued professional/educational development.
* Working towards or educated to Master’s level.


Knowledge & Experience

* Advanced knowledge and expertise regarding the laws, guidelines and frameworks which govern the set up and conduct of clinical research within the UK (SI 2004/1031; ICH GCP; Research Governance Framework; EU Directive).
* Advanced knowledge and expertise in setting up a variety of types of clinical trials/research studies and the approvals and permissions required.
* Experience of working in a research environment (NHS, University or industry).
* Facilitation skills and ability to work with and coordinate the work of groups of researchers.
* Computer literate and advanced knowledge of key software packages.
* Knowledge of commercial organisations within research.
* Evidence of developing and leading programmes of education/training.

* Effective communication with a wide range of personnel within the healthcare sector.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, building working relationships with department colleagues, NIHR colleagues, Trust staff at all levels and external organisations.
* Ability to work under pressure, balancing conflicting workloads.
* Independent initiative and confidentiality.
* Negotiation skills, tactful and confident.
* Proactive and methodical work approach.
* Data coordination to agreed timescales.
* Advanced IT skills in Microsoft Office Applications.
* Clear and legible handwriting.
