Job Summary
The Consultant in Interventional Cardiology will support a 12 month fixed term post at Torbay Hospital, providing a 24/7 primary PCI rota and contributing to the local cardiology collaborative programme. The role offers the possibility to convert into a substantive post if needed.
Responsibilities
* Support the interventional 24/7 primary PCI rota, ward base and growing outpatient service.
* Ensure rapid assessment and treatment of all patients, maintaining safe, quality and performance standards.
* Provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervising junior doctors.
* Lead clinical governance initiatives and support continuous learning and improvement.
* Collaborate with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address service issues.
* Participate in relevant audit, quality assurance processes and communicate with local GPs.
Essential Qualifications
* Full GMC registration (with licence to practice).
* CCT Specialist Registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of interview date.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Level 3 competence in invasive procedures including angiography, PCI, temporary pacing, pericardiocentesis and echocardiography.
* Fulfilment of BCIS training requirements for Interventional cardiology.
* Recent or current experience in emergency PCI.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Broad clinical experience in cardiology and evidence of appropriately maintained clinical skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* MD/PhD or equivalent.
* Experience of adjunctive PCI technology; IVUS, flow wire, rotablation, OCT.
* Level three competence in permanent pacing.
