The opportunity
We have several exciting opportunities within the Manufacturing Engineering function. We are seeking skilled engineers across various levels.
You will join the team to develop, improve, and support manufacturing processes and equipment, enabling world-class production of Leonardo products. Responsibilities include developing robust solutions considering broader project impacts, planning and delivering your work, providing complex technical advice to internal and external customers, and developing others. This role will focus on Delivery (Sustaining) with opportunities to support NPI (New Product Introduction) projects.
Leonardo is an international leader in developing cutting-edge sensor products used across various airborne platforms, pushing the boundaries of technology, accuracy, and safety in engineering globally.
The roles are based in Edinburgh but may involve a mix of home-based and on-site work.
What You’ll Do As a Manufacturing Engineer
* Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, and understanding feedback from operators and suppliers.
* Prepare for and organize Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintain governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and create or review Manufacturing Plans.
* Provide manufacturing decision-making information with resolution proposals.
* Review production schedules, labour and material costs, and estimate future requirements.
* Prepare reports by analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
* Resolve complex product and production issues efficiently, reacting to escalations from manufacturing teams.
* Improve manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, workflow simulation, space planning, and equipment layout.
* Review manufacturing documentation, including risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
* Ensure product and process quality through design, validation, verification, and standard-setting.
* Contribute to failure investigations using problem-solving techniques such as 8D.
* Maintain manufacturing data like routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
* Identify and implement continuous improvement activities to develop skills within Manufacturing Engineering.
* Complete projects through training and collaboration within the manufacturing engineering community.
* Promote best practices and knowledge sharing.
* Mentor and coach junior team members to enhance overall capability.
* Support customer and user engagement and product roadmaps with domain expertise.
* Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

What We Need From You
You really must have
* Manufacturing engineering qualification, such as HNC or equivalent experience and knowledge.
* Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
* People management and leadership skills, including performance and change management.
* Ability to influence and negotiate using data and analysis.
* Understanding of operational frameworks and business processes.
* Knowledge of cross-functional and commercial processes and their impacts.
* Ability to own work packages, plan, and schedule workload.
* Operational understanding of project work and its impact on other activities.
* Experience across multiple product lifecycle phases and related processes.
* Experience peer-reviewing work within product teams and ensuring actions are implemented.
* Knowledge of risk/reward processes related to engineering activities.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
* Confidence in addressing technical and process issues.
* Effective interaction with customers and suppliers.
* Experience in capability or process development and implementing work practice changes.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
It would be nice if you had
HND or higher in an engineering-related discipline.
