The Role:
We are seeking a knowledgeable Sustainability Manager to lead the organisation’s approach to Net Zero, domestic energy performance and retrofit strategy. You will act as the internal expert on sustainability, EPCs and decarbonisation of homes, shaping long‑term plans, securing funding, and supporting compliance with emerging environmental standards. This strategic role combines data‑driven analysis, operational insight and cross‑department collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sustainability Leadership
* Lead the development and delivery of the Sustainability & Net Zero Carbon Strategy.
* Act as the organisation’s expert for sustainability guidance and decision‑making.
* Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, EPC standards and Net Zero targets.
* Produce the annual ESG report.
* Identify and coordinate funding bids (e.g., SHDF, ECO4).
Operational Delivery & Decarbonisation
* Lead domestic energy assessments, EPC compliance and decarbonisation planning.
* Develop costed annual programmes of retrofit and decarbonisation works.
* Monitor carbon footprint, energy usage and waste data across stock and offices.
* Maintain and develop the Decarbonisation Dashboard for retrofit prioritisation.
* Ensure sustainability measures are embedded into contract management.
Stakeholder Engagement & Awareness
* Support tenant initiatives on sustainability and fuel poverty.
* Raise sustainability awareness across the organisation.
* Build partnerships with local authorities, contractors, suppliers and community groups.
General Responsibilities
* Promote equality, diversity, health & safety and value‑for‑money principles.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of energy regulations and sustainability best practice.
* Attend training, meetings and contribute to organisational improvement.
What We’re Looking For:
* Relevant qualification in housing, building studies, surveying or construction (HNC/HND/CIOB/IHBC).
* Qualified Domestic Energy Assessor with current accreditation.
* Strong working knowledge of EPCs, RdSAP, archetypes, retrofit and building fabric performance.
* Experience carrying out EPC surveys and interpreting outputs for investment planning.
* Knowledge of sustainability in housing, fuel poverty and regulatory frameworks (HHSRS, Awaab’s Law).
* Ability to translate survey data into practical asset‑management decisions.
* Skilled in environmental audits, carbon reporting and sustainability data.
* Experience applying for sustainability funding streams (ECO, BUS, SHDF, MEES etc.).
* Strong communication skills, able to present technical information to non‑technical audiences.
* Competent in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and support team collaboration.
* Full driving licence required.
