The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors as they’re responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. They’ll need to fully decarbonise by 2050 whilst doubling electricity production. Concerns about energy security provide additional pressures to quickly transition to new sustainable sources of power, whilst maximising domestic sources of energy.
We’re recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plant, waste incineration and refineries.
Key responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
Incident role – Make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Experience and skills required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role in question gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.

This vacancy closes end of October. Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November. It would be anticipated that this role would require some travel.
