Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security Operative to work in the Centralised Control Room at Bethlem Royal Hospital for the Facilities Department, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the Facilities Team Leader.
The successful applicant will have good organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
You will communicate with SLAM staff and health professionals. The post holder will be comfortable with IT and be keen to learn new software packages and processes.

Main duties of the job
1. The Centralised Control Room Operative will be part of the team that provides 24/7 365 days a year cover of the Centralised Control Room, monitoring CCTV, BMS, Fire, intruder and panic alarms, emergency phones also call the emergency team to any emergencies on site and will serve as the first point of contact for DSN and emergency services The role is crucial in creating a welcoming, supportive, and organised environment. The operative will also be expected to maintain confidentiality and promote a calm, positive atmosphere. Additionally, the role includes acting as a fire marshal to coordinate safety during evacuations. This position requires staying current with mandatory training to maintain job competency and effectively manage challenging interactions and emergencies.
2. Collaborate with Security Team Leader and Security Operatives to enforce good practices and ensure compliance with trust policies and the trust’s five commitments.
3. To complete a daily schedule of CCTV patrols, to ensure safety across the Trust.
4. To complete weekly equipment audits, to ensure that equipment is in working order and report all equipment failures and raise any issues of concern to ensure continuity of the system.
5. Remain current with mandatory training and continually assess training needs to maintain job competency and address skill gaps.
6. Use the Trust's reporting platforms to report any policy breaches and manage security issues promptly.
7. Provide excellent customer service at the Control Room, and effectively managing challenging interactions and emergencies.
8. To assist in providing an effective and efficient CCTV service under the direction of the Security Team Leader. This will include the following work objectives: to operate and monitor all systems within the control room in an effective and efficient manner. To ensure all work is undertaken in compliance with the operating procedures, current legislation (GDPR) and current code of practice, to liaise with the police, other agencies and members of staff by various communication systems to ensure the system is used effectively to support the objectives of the service
9. To respond to all alarm activations, CCTV incidents and calls taken on the emergency phone.
10. To produce all evidential records and witness statements to a high standard acceptable to the rules of evidence and current legislation and to record all events and actions in a clear and accurate format through the use of the current software-based solution used by the CCTV control room.
11. To provide an efficient and courteous radio/ascom and telephone answering service when dealing with a vast array of issues.
12. To control access to all visitors to the control room in order to maintain high security and confidentiality of the CCTV operation
13. Report any breaches of policies in line with Datix reporting policy.
14. Act as Fire Marshall for own service area, carrying out monthly audits, acting as point of contact with Emergency Services/DSN during any evacuations of work area.
15. Follow and enforce emergency and security procedures to maintain a safe and orderly environment
16. To work closely with Local Facilities Team Leader and Facilities Teams on each site to ensure that there is a complete security monitoring both electronically and in person to work as a complete team.
Person specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 Facilities Management (or working towards)
* S.I.A / C.C.T.V certificated.
* Functional skills Level 2 Maths and English
* Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation. (A/I)
Experience
* The ability to manage conflict and identify where escalation to senior staff is necessary
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
* Demonstrable experience of practice and procedures relevant to the area of work.
* Familiar with Planet F.M (Facility Management) (Facility Management) software
* Fire Marshall
* First Aid at Work certified.
Knowledge/Skills
* Demonstrate working knowledge of using CCTV Systems
* Demonstrate working knowledge of GDPR and Information Governance
* Demonstrate working knowledge of GDPR and Information Governance
* N.H.S experience especially in a Mental health setting
* Customer service experience preferably in a health care setting
