Job summary
Join the largest acute medical consultant team in the South West at North Bristol NHS Trust. This is a full-time role (10 PAs), but part-time or job-share arrangements are welcome. LTFT applicants also welcome. Our team comprises 18 acute medical consultants and is leading transformational change in service delivery with patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for a consultant excited by the challenge of driving forward timely, safe, and effective care in a busy, high-pressure environment.
Our AMU includes an Acute Medical Triage area (40% of medical intake from the community), an Enhanced Care Unit (NIV, HFNO and high-level care), and an embedded short-stay function. 40% of patients are discharged directly from AMU, with an average length of stay of 48 hours. We run a mature SDEC providing cross-specialty admission avoidance (about 40 patients a day) and have a separate Acute Frailty Unit run by the frailty team.
Main duties include contributing to a multi-disciplinary acute medicine team delivering consultant-led care for patients presenting to North Bristol NHS Trust. You will be part of the consultant rota, responsible for running and supervising the acute take, SDEC, enhanced care unit, and AMU. You will have time allocated for administration and supporting professional activities, with opportunities to engage in quality improvement and service development.
