Role Description
4 on 4 off shift pattern – 12 hour days and nights.
Job Purpose
Safely maintain and operate the effluent treatment plant, steam raising plant and ensure an unfettered supply of other site utilities to the manufacturing environment, keeping the site within its environmental consent limits. Include duties regarding maintenance of general building services and fabric, yard areas and the Energy Centre. Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and execute planned maintenance, documenting and handing over all work to the oncoming team.
Working shifts, rotating nights and days, reporting to the Site Services Engineering Manager. This role is part of a team that proactively manages asset care to optimise equipment performance. The role contributes positively to planning and executing all asset‑care activities on shift.
Plays a proactive role in the asset‑care element of the engineering function on shift, helping the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through delivery of the strategic objectives: quality, cost, delivery, safety, people.
Principal Responsibilities
* Safety, Quality, Hygiene: Ensuring safety of self and others, adhering to H&S policies, lock‑out/tag‑out, Permit to Work; guarantee purchased items meet legal and European requirements; demonstrate safe behaviour; maintain GMP standards; comply with statutory safety; complete risk assessments; support a culture of behavioural awareness; reduce customer complaints and wastage.
* Operations Management: Establish objectives and priorities with team leader; carry out site maintenance ensuring GMP standards; record work on breakdowns, repairs and modifications; own issues until closure; monitor and update the planned maintenance system; update plant parameters; ensure equipment performance meets product quality; assist in training other departments; undertake own training needs with manager.
* Continuous Improvement: Contribute to and help implement CI initiatives to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction.
* Communication: Communicate with planning, manufacturing and site to ensure activities are implemented on time and within budget; daily communication with manager regarding maintenance priorities; liaise with engineering stores for spare availability; conduct high‑quality shift briefings between shift engineers.

Role Requirements – Knowledge
* Effective communication
* Engineering activities in a food manufacturing environment
* Knowledge of steam raising boiler equipment
* Knowledge of pneumatic systems
* Knowledge of electrical distribution systems
* Knowledge of soft water systems
* Knowledge of legionella control
* Advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
* Demonstrable knowledge of CI techniques
* Experience with CMMS – preferably SAP
Role Requirements – Skills
* 5+ years hands‑on experience of equipment in a food manufacturing environment, preferably site services
* Ability to read and understand technical manuals and engineering drawings
* Ability to read and use both imperial and metric systems
* Good PC skills
Additional Experience/Demonstrations
* Experience of high‑speed CNC handling equipment desirable
* Experience of working in a site services environment desirable
* Food safety qualification desirable
* Ability to interface with common PLCs desirable
* Health & safety qualification desirable
* Confined space experience
* Knowledge of SCADA systems
