Role Overview
We are looking for a proactive, people-focused PR & Awards Submissions Manager to lead our public relations and awards strategy across our care homes.
This role is central to telling the real stories behind our care, bringing to life the experiences of our residents, families, and teams. You will build strong relationships with home teams to uncover powerful, authentic stories and translate these into compelling PR coverage, thought leadership, and award-winning submissions.
You’ll own the full lifecycle of PR and awards, from identifying opportunities and developing narratives, to writing submissions and maximising exposure from wins and coverage.
Key Responsibilities
PR & Media Relations
* Develop and deliver a PR strategy that enhances brand reputation and trust
* Build and maintain relationships with key media across regional, national, and care sector press
* Write and distribute press releases, features, and reactive commentary
* Secure positive, consistent media coverage that reflects the quality of care and innovation across the group
* Identify opportunities for senior leaders to contribute to thought leadership and commentary
* Monitor coverage and report on PR performance
Story Gathering & Relationship Building
* Proactively gather stories from homes by building strong, trusted relationships with Home Managers and team members and were necessary support the homes with creating stories from scratch.
* Liaise with marketing colleagues (esp the Content Team) to ensure stories are shared across all channels.
* Regularly engage with homes (virtually and in-person where appropriate) to identify PR-worthy moments, initiatives, and outcomes
* Create simple processes and prompts to help teams share stories, achievements, and resident experiences
* Coach and support home teams to recognise what makes a strong story
* Ensure stories are authentic, sensitive, and aligned with the organisation’s values and tone
Awards Strategy & Submissions
* Own and deliver the annual awards strategy across care, business, property, people, and sustainability categories
* Maintain a structured calendar of relevant awards, deadlines, and requirements
* Write compelling, evidence-based award submissions that clearly demonstrate impact and outcomes
* Work closely with home teams and internal stakeholders to gather data, testimonials, and supporting evidence
* Manage multiple submissions simultaneously, ensuring high quality and on-time delivery
* Track results and maximise PR and internal engagement from shortlists and wins
Content & Thought Leadership
* Develop high-quality thought leadership pieces for senior leaders, positioning the organisation as a leader in care
* Identify key themes and topics relevant to the care sector (e.g. dementia care, workforce, quality, innovation)
* Ensure all content aligns with brand tone and supports reputation building
Internal Collaboration
* Work closely with marketing, operations, and senior leadership teams
* Act as a bridge between central marketing and care homes
* Encourage a culture of storytelling across the organisation
* Support internal communications where PR alignment is beneficial
Essential
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in PR, communications, or content roles
* Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling, emotive, and persuasive content
* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
* Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines
* Experience writing award submissions
* High attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive stories appropriately
* Skills to translate real-life care experiences into engaging narratives
* Ability to travel regularly to care homes across the North of England
Desirable
* Experience within the care, healthcare, or social care sector
* Existing media contacts or PR network
