Job overview We have developed an exciting opportunity to allow acute and emergency care nurses and paramedics undertake training, and gain experience toward becoming and Emergency Care Practitioner. The post is within our Haslemere Urgent Treatment Centre (with adhoc dual site cover at Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department). The post is for a part time tECP to develop their career towards becoming an emergency care practitioner. The successful candidate will work in a trainee capacity alongside our qualified ECP’s and doctors in developing skills and expected competencies in their treatment of minor injuries and ailments patients, aged 1 year and over, that present to the Urgent Treatment Centre (Haslemere). Post holders will have a dedicated ‘base’ site as Haslemere UTC. An ECP Clinical Mentor to support them through their training journey and portfolio, then on completion of all skills and competencies, post holders will advance into a Band 7 ECP if they complete their qualifications within the 12 month period. Development will require training through a range of methods including post-graduate university based study and clinical practice. The post is for a fixed term contract only Advert The post is a fixed term 12 month post (01/04/26 to 31/03/27). The holder will work in a trainee capacity alongside qualified ECP’s and doctors to develop skills and expected competencies. The post holder will develop these competencies as a band 6, once all competencies are competed, the post holder will be advanced to a band 7 and expected to deliver autonomous patient care on a daily basis. To work alongside experienced ECPs to develop skills to be competent to autonomously assess, investigate, diagnose, treat, refer or discharge patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre (or Emergency Department) within the parameters of the Emergency Care Practitioner scope of practice. The post holder will continually develop their skills and competencies, to provide assessment, treatment, care and education to patients from all sections of the community from children (above the age of 1 year) to the elderly, ensuring high quality patient centered care. All Trainees’ will have a dedicated ECP Clinical Mentor to support them through their training journey, then on completion of all skills and competencies (if achieved within the 12 month period), will then progress into a Band 7 ECP. To actively ensure the continuing implementation of changes to nursing practice to improve patient care utilising advanced skills. To act as a role model and expert practitioner. To ensure effective collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team and interested agencies. To work within protocols set in the Urgent Treatment Centre and Emergency Department for Emergency Care Practitioners Providing advice, consultation and information about a range of health conditions and minor injuries/ailments. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations. To actively participate in health promotion and education enabling patients to take responsibility for their own care. To ensure adequate clinical and managerial records are maintained. To ensure that the environment and staff comply with Health & Safety, Infection Control & COSHH regulations and that Trust policies and procedures are followed correctly. To promote excellent communications within the Urgent Treatment Centre and Emergency Department and the multidisciplinary team and to be responsible for appropriate communication structures being in place. To ensure that incidents and accidents are reported and investigated according to Trust policy and that appropriate clinical risk management structures are in place. To encourage staff and maintain the highest standards of personal and professional conduct and performance, participating in the disciplinary procedure according to Trust policy. To be aware of the broader Trust wide issues and resources and work as part of the managerial team of the directorate. To ensure positive and appropriate links with the University of Surrey, particularly in regard to clinical placements and other continuous development opportunities. To manage study, leave in accordance with Trust policy, ensuring equity of opportunity, promoting professional development, which is responsive to service, need. To maintain and develop one’s own professional knowledge and expertise and meet PREPP and the job’s requirements. To actively share knowledge and expertise and contribute to the Trust as a whole. To reflect as a Trainee practitioner, learning from experience and to promote reflective practices within the Urgent Treatment Centre and Emergency department team. To participate within the context of the HCPC/NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times. To attend appropriate professional updates and to ensure the continuing development of clinical expertise with the ward team. To participate in nursing and other research as appropriate To promote and participate in health education. To prepare accurate statements in response to accidents, mishaps and complaints. To abide by the HCPC/NMC Code of Professional Conduct for the Nurse and Paramedic Practitioner and ensure safe practice. As a registered nurse or Paramedic, you are personally accountable for your practice. In caring for patients and clients you must: o Respect the patient or client as an individual o Obtain consent before you give any treatment or care o Protect confidential information o Co-operate with others in the team o Maintain your professional knowledge and competence o Be trustworthy o Act to identify and minimise risk to patients and clients These are the shared values of all the United Kingdom health care regulatory bodies’
