This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated graduate to join a dynamic public office at the forefront of policing, community safety, and justice reform. As part of a new structure designed to build capability and reach, this 12-month graduate placement offers a unique chance to contribute to strategic communications and high-impact projects, including the Serious Violence duty, Youth Commission and the Prevention Pathfinder Panel. The successful candidate will rotate across three directorates—Communications and Engagement, Policy & Partnerships, and Resources & Governance—gaining broad exposure to strategic communications, policy development, commissioning, and governance. Key Responsibilities:Communications & Engagement - Support operational and digital communications aligned with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCCs) public engagement strategy. - Enhance the OPCC’s digital presence through timely, inclusive, and engaging content (e.g., TikTok, Threads, Instagram Reels). - Contribute to building public confidence and reaching underrepresented audiences. Policy & Partnerships - Assist with commissioning analysis for the PCC’s Violence Pathfinder Prevention Panel. - Conduct horizon scanning for new policies and funding opportunities from the Home Office, Association of Police & Crime Commissioners and the Ministry of Justice. - Support development of the Youth Commission and Retail Crime Strategy. Resources & Oversight - Support delivery of the PCC’s Serious Violence Duty commitments, including bid analysis and partner engagement. - Assist with financial analysis, risk management, and compliance activities. What We’re Looking For - A recent graduate (undergraduate or Masters) (2023–2025) in public policy, digital communications, social sciences, criminology, or related fields. - Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills. - Interest in policing, justice reform, and public sector innovation. - A clear communicator, curious thinker, and collaborative team player. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data tools. - Experience with social media platforms and content creation for diverse audiences. If required to then business insurance will need to be organised by the individual. - The post holder may be required to work from different locations other than the home station - Police vetting is required, as advised by the vetting unit - The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required - The post holder may be required to work additional hours, but this will be agreed in advance in conjunction with management & the post holder.
