Job Summary
Specialist Occupational Therapist (Community Respiratory) – a permanent part‑time post (22.5 hours) within NHS Greater Manchester. The role involves planning, delivering and evaluating therapeutic programmes for respiratory patients to support independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver evidence‑based occupational therapy assessments and treatment plans for respiratory patients.
* Actively manage a caseload, prioritising care and organising time efficiently.
* Work independently with clinical authority while accessing senior support when required.
* Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to colleagues within the respiratory team.
* Document interventions, progress and outcomes in line with national and Trust policies.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of therapy policy and procedures.
* Ensure clinical care is delivered in a safe, person‑centred, and legally compliant manner.
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Current HCPC registration.
Experience
* Pre‑ or postgraduate experience in a variety of clinical settings.
* Experience treating a range of conditions, particularly respiratory.
* Experience in caseload management and OT process application.
* Band 5 NHS experience is essential.
Skills & Competencies
* Proficient in a range of OT interventions and graded techniques.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, non‑verbal).
* Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
* Strong clinical reasoning and critical appraisal of own practice.
* Delegation ability and judgement under pressure.
* Willingness to travel independently within the Trust.
Knowledge
* In-depth understanding of medical and surgical conditions relevant to occupational therapy.
* Knowledge of OT management principles across a range of conditions.
* Professional ethics and clinical governance standards.
Additional Requirements
* Clear vision of the role and strong interest in respiratory OT.
* Speak English to an appropriate standard.
* UK professional registration and disclosure & barring service check.
