Service Designer – Public Sector (GDS Experience Essential)

We’re looking for an experienced Service Designer with solid GDS experience to join a major public sector project.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, customer-focused and agile delivery team, using User Centred Design (UCD) methods to help improve critical government services.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead the development of service blueprints, journey maps and experience maps.
* Work closely with researchers, product managers and delivery teams to design and improve services end-to-end.
* Develop, test and refine concepts and prototypes to explore design ideas and validate user needs.
* Apply UCD principles throughout the design lifecycle to ensure decisions are grounded in real user evidence.
* Support and participate in user research activities, helping to translate insights into actionable design improvements.
* Work in an open, iterative and collaborative way as part of a multidisciplinary agile team.
* Align service design work with agile workflows across all stages of the development lifecycle.
* Help shape and support the adoption of service design thinking across the wider team.
What we’re looking for:
* Strong public sector background and hands-on GDS framework experience (Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live).
* Proven track record in User Centred Design, service mapping, and user research.
* Experience in concept development and prototyping within agile environments.
* Deep understanding of user-centred design practices and how they align with agile delivery.
* Great communicator, collaborator and problem-solver.
* Available to start immediately or at short notice.
