Role Overview

The HR Business Partner acts as a strategic partner to the business, delivering focused HR support across employee relations, recruitment, and learning and development. They work closely with leaders at all levels to enable performance, build capability, and drive organisational effectiveness. The role ensures compliance with company policies and employment legislation, while contributing to the delivery of business priorities through the implementation of best practice HR initiatives and projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide HR support and high level of service on a day-to-day basis for corporate managers and employees; managing employee relationships, responding promptly to queries and managing employee expectations.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Advise management and employees on policy-related matters, ensuring fair and consistent application.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating all electronic employee files for Corporate.
  • Accountable for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and governance of the HR Information System (SuccessFactors), ensuring high-quality people data to support reporting, compliance, and informed business decision-making
  • Supporting managers with ER matters; including grievances, disciplinary matters, redundancies, and absence management cases, whilst ensuring any legal or other risks are mitigated.
  • Supporting managers in the management of short-term and long-term absences.
  • Supporting line managers with arranging Occupational Health referrals and implementing the necessary adjustments.
  • Leading and supporting the HR team with the recruitment process, from preparation of the approval form and job descriptions, advertising on LinkedIn, Trakstar and with recruitment agencies. Assisting with the day-to-day contact with recruitment agencies, shortlisting of LinkedIn applications, to preparing and conducting interviews and tests where necessary.
  • Support in the onboarding process for new hires, including paperwork and induction.
  • Managing the new joiner process from offer stage through to joining instructions, induction, and the probationary period completion.
  • Supporting in preparing the monthly payroll instructions and liaising with payroll to ensure accuracy of payroll information.
  • Providing support with the annual pay review and bonus cycle for Corporate employees.
  • Assisting the Head of HR with the annual talent review and succession planning process with Heads of Department and Executives.
  • Identify training needs and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to seek how to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • Line manage the HR Trainee, providing ongoing coaching, guidance, and support to ensure their continued development and upskilling.
  • Lead the exploration and adoption of AI‑driven HR solutions, ensuring the team remains current with new technologies and embedding innovative practices that enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Leading with the arrangement of the bi-annual UK HR Meetings with all UK HR representatives to discuss recent employment law updates and cases affecting the business.
  • Attending and supporting in the coordination of IMI’s annual European Communication Forum (ECF) and Liaison Committee meetings, which include arranging quarterly calls, distributing, and monitoring actions and to participate in discussions as necessary.
  • Supporting in the preparation of Corporate’s annual ‘IMI Way Day’ and development of wellbeing initiatives at Corporate; including annual flu vaccinations.
  • Manage the One Big Voice Survey results for Corporate; producing, executing, reviewing, and monitoring corporate engagement plans accordingly.
  • Support the HR Trainee in delivering wellbeing, inclusion, and social initiatives for the Lakeside site, ensuring activities are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with our people strategy.
  • Working jointly with the Social Committee to arrange charity, wellbeing, and social events at Corporate.
  • Support with other tasks and projects as necessary across the HR function, i.e., Group Learning and Development, Group Communications and Group Reward.
  • Coaching managers through the full employment life cycle to maximise performance and adherence to processes.
  • Supporting employee communications including manager briefings, announcements, and employee forums as appropriate.
  • Deputise for the Senior HR Business Partner as and when required, including during times of leave.
  • Support Group/sector projects across the HR function.
  • Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested


Critical Competencies for Success

  • 2–3 years’ previous experience in an HR Business Partner role within a HR team working preferably in a plc, corporate or professional services organisation, with understanding of the core HR disciplines such as recruitment, performance management, handling ER cases, reporting and organising disciplinary and grievances, policy development and implementation etc.
  • CIPD level 5 or above qualified.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and planning skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to leverage AI‑driven tools and platforms, such as Copilot or ChatGPT, to streamline workflows, generate insights, and support continuous improvement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborates with others, putting their own needs aside to create a shared sense of purpose.
  • Good process skills and a drive to secure continuous improvements.
  • Ability to operate within a global, fast-moving business.
  • Excellent and proven interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Working well under pressure and able to work towards deadlines.
  • Able to communicate and engage at all levels of the organisation both internally and externally.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and appropriately with confidential information.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work accurately, with attention to detail.
  • High degree of integrity with high personal and professional standards.
