What You’ll Be Doing
As HSE Manager, you'll be a key member of the site leadership team, responsible for developing site management systems, improvement strategies, and plans. You will establish site governance and performance metrics, providing professional support, coaching, and guidance on all operational health, safety, and environment matters. The role requires a technical expert with detailed knowledge of HSE law and its application.
* Develop, manage, and embed effective and consistent implementation of legal HSE policies and procedures to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Ensure alignment with business standards and work collaboratively to keep HSE processes active.
* Provide legal and technical guidance to all site personnel, especially leaders and supervisors. Drive initiatives to embed controls that mitigate risks from new or changing HSE legislation, applying detailed knowledge of health, safety, environmental, security, and occupational health law.
* Design, develop, and implement programs that enhance the HSE culture, leveraging technical expertise to propose initiatives that improve behaviors and site management performance.
* Develop and deliver the site’s health, safety, and environment strategy to improve performance across all metrics. Provide insights, governance, data, and KPIs to drive improvements and effective risk management. Establish local arrangements for group reporting and governance.
* Create systems and educate teams to ensure effective incident investigation, utilizing deep technical knowledge and various failure analysis tools. Manage incident recording systems.
* Provide direction and coaching to develop site HSE capabilities, growing expertise within the team and across colleagues. Lead committees involving representatives at all levels.
* Manage stakeholder relationships with external bodies (EA, HSE, customers, auditors, community). Ensure legal compliance, manage incidents, lead enforcement visits, and oversee external audits and customer visits.
* Ensure HSE considerations are integrated into project management, adhering to standards across insurance, fire, security, machinery, chemical, and biological areas.
* Lead the site’s HSE audit programs to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
* Assess needs, plan improvements, and manage security teams to enhance site security, ensuring compliance with legal and customer standards.
What we’re looking for
* Degree-level education or relevant professional qualification in Health and Safety management
* Experience in Health and Safety management, preferably in manufacturing
* Practitioner member of IEMA (PIEMA) or working towards environmental qualifications
* Proven experience in technical development and knowledge of current HSE legislation
* Additional knowledge of occupational health and security management is desirable
* Strong soft skills, with the ability to motivate and influence stakeholders at all levels
* Effective team leadership and collaboration skills
