The Aurora Group is one of the largest providers of SEND educational and care services in the country, supporting over 1, children, young people and adults, and employing over 1, staff spread across services around England.
Aurora Rowan provides a specialist learning environment for students aged between 5 - years old with Autism and Severe learning difficulties and the associated communication and behavioural difficulties. The school includes a full therapy team to ensure we can offer the best support to our students.
Located in a 6 ½ acre rural location surrounded by ancient woodland but close to transport links. we’re looking for a SENDCo to join our team on site as soon as possible.
The role:
Your role is to act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provide outstanding Special Education Needs (SEN) provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEND student achievement.
Key accountabilities:
1. Model a neuro-informed and neuro-affirmative approach and practice to all staff.
2. Ensure that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities in accordance with each student EHCP and their defined SEND assessment.
3. Overseeing the day-to day operation of a school’s special education policy.
4. In relation to each students EHCP and defined SEND assessment, coordinate and deploy the school’s provision with regard to its policies, staffing and resources.
5. Communicate with parents/carers, school employees, other agencies, and local authorities on the progress of students and the effectiveness of intervention and support strategies.
6. Ensure that there is an integrated approach to the school’s SEND provision generally and for specific students.
7. Exercise a key role in advising and assisting the Head teacher with the strategic development of SEND policy and provision, including reviewing, and formulating policies.
8. Liaise with the Pastoral lead to identify appropriate therapeutic support.
9. Prepare information and carry out annual statutory reviews or specific case conferences.
10. Promote best practice and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through inset and CPD for new teachers.
11. To keep abreast of developments in SEND (., research, changes to the law) and inform SLT and Head where appropriate.
12. To undertake any reasonable task requested by the Headteacher. This will include covering lessons operationally required to do so.

Skills and Qualifications
Successful candidate qualities:
13. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training
14. SENDCo or willingness to achieve within 2 years
15. Relevant knowledge and experience of students with SEND, especially experience of ASC and associated conditions.
16. Have successfully implemented a range of interventions.
17. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
18. Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour.
