The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents aged 19+ and target those with the highest levels of need.
Our offerings include long courses in English, maths, ESOL, ICT/Digital, vocational subjects like Early Years, and provision for adults with learning disabilities. We also offer a variety of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness, and family learning. Additionally, we run a supportive study program for young people.
Our work-based learning includes Apprenticeships in Nursery Work, Teaching Assistance, Leadership/Management, and Customer Care. We also provide courses for adults seeking employment via the Council’s Job Shop.
Main base: Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mainly in high-need areas.

Job Role: Full-time Lecturer Level 1, 12-month fixed-term position for the 16–24 Study Programme. The role involves delivering accredited and non-accredited qualifications face-to-face at Southfields Old School to groups of 8-10 learners, many with Educational Health and Care Plans.
The focus is on Functional Skills in Maths and/or English from Entry to Level 2, GCSE Maths/English. Delivery is up to 3 days a week, with 2 days for prep and marking. Candidates can discuss preferences during interviews.
This position is open to all applicants; however, visa sponsorship cannot be offered. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK for at least 2 years.
The role is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; appointment depends on a satisfactory DBS check.
Candidate Profile: Enthusiastic Tutor with experience supporting young people, especially those with special educational needs. Must have a Functional Skills/GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or higher, and a Level 4 teaching qualification minimum.
Additional pre-employment checks aligned with KCSIE recommendations are required, including an online search.
