Picking Supervisor
I'm currently working with a long-standing, family-run horticultural business to recruit a Picking Supervisor for their busy warehouse and live goods dispatch operation. This is a hands-on supervisory role ideal for someone with good people instincts, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain quality under pressure.
You'll be supervising a team of pickers who work with live plants, compost, pots, ornaments, and related horticultural products, ensuring orders are picked accurately and dispatched efficiently.
The Role
1. Supervise and support a team of up to 10 pickers
2. Deliver short daily briefings to set priorities, discuss shortages, and maintain workflow
3. Maintain picking spreadsheets and track outputs
4. Ensure quality - choosing plants/products as if you were the customer
5. Keep stock areas organised and ensure trolleys are filled correctly
6. Step in and support where needed, while holding the team to expectations
7. Work closely with warehouse and goods-in teams to manage flow and logistics
The Ideal Candidate
8. Has experience supervising or coordinating teams (warehouse, horticulture, food manufactruing)
9. Possesses good common sense and a practical, no-nonsense approach
10. Can stay calm under pressure and is comfortable giving direction
11. Ideally has some knowledge of plants or live goods (training is provided if not)
12. Is reliable, present, and focused on delivering results through their team
