About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Supervising Social Worker in Powys council, based in the Mainstream Fostering Team. The position would be part of a well established, supportive, stable staff team who are committed to achieving best possible outcomes for our children and young people. The Mainstream Fostering Team undertakes the assessment and support of foster carers. Supervising social workers have manageable caseloads, receive a robust induction, have regular reflective supervision as well as additional support and mentoring when required.
About you:
• Post qualifying experience in a fostering related social worker role or post qualifying experience in other childcare setting such as a looked after children's team.
• You should have a knowledge and understanding of the needs and experiences of children who are unable to live with their parents.
• An ability to demonstrate that you can complete assessments in a timely manner.
• The ability to support our foster carers and their families to achieve the best outcomes for the children in their care.
• Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation including the Social Services and Well-being Act and Local Authority Fostering Regulations.
What you will do:
• Complete Form F Fostering Assessments plus occasional initial visit
assessments to prospective applicants.
• Support and supervise foster carers, ensuring that they are well supported with appropriate advice and guidance to enable them to continue to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing and learning environment for children/young people who they are looking after.
• Opportunities to participate delivering foster carer training, such as Skills to Foster.
• Support the recruitment officers by occasionally taking part in actively recruiting foster carers.
