Job Description

As a Maths SEND Teacher, you deliver high-quality mathematics education to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. You plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons tailored to meet the individual learning requirements of pupils, ensuring inclusive and supportive classroom environments. You assess pupil progress regularly, adapting teaching strategies to maximise learning outcomes. You collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement personalised education plans and provide feedback to parents or carers regarding pupil development.

Your role includes managing classroom behaviour positively, promoting pupil confidence and independence in mathematical skills. You maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and participate in professional development to stay abreast of best practises in SEND education and mathematics teaching.


Job Duties

* Plan and deliver differentiated mathematics lessons for pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
* Assess and monitor pupil progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
* Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with colleagues and specialists.
* Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages pupil engagement and confidence.
* Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet diverse learning styles and abilities.
* Manage pupil behaviour using positive strategies and maintain a safe classroom atmosphere.
* Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to support pupil development and wellbeing.
* Maintain accurate records of lessons, attendance, and pupil progress in line with school policies.
* Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.


Required Qualifications

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognised in the United Kingdom.
* Proven experience teaching mathematics to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.


Education

* Degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field is desirable.
* Postgraduate qualifications or training in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) preferred.


Experience

* Demonstrable experience working with pupils diagnosed with autism spectrum conditions or other SEND.
* Experience in adapting curriculum and lesson plans to cater for varied learning needs.
* Previous employment within a SEND or special school setting is advantageous.


Knowledge and Skills

* Strong subject knowledge in mathematics and ability to teach across key stages as required.
* Excellent understanding of SEND frameworks, teaching strategies, and behavioural management techniques.
* Ability to use assessment data effectively to inform teaching.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage pupils, parents, and colleagues.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience in supporting pupils with complex needs.
* Competence in using educational technology and resources to enhance learning.


Preferred Qualifications

* Specialist training or certification in autism education or behaviour support.
* Experience with alternative communication methods (such as Makaton or PECS) is an advantage.
* Evidence of continuous professional development in SEND and mathematics education.


Working Conditions

* Work within a supportive, multidisciplinary educational environment.
* Engage with pupils who have diverse and complex learning needs.
* May require flexible working hours to accommodate school timetables and pupil needs.
* Work involves standing for extended periods and managing a busy classroom setting.
* Occasional requirement to attend off-site meetings or training events.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
