The Flow Room is the beating heart of our automated operation at the Midlands Super Hub. It controls everything that happens from an operational perspective, making timely business critical decisions, providing updates on how the operation is performing, and managing the peaks and troughs in demand to ensure efficient flow through the hub and, by extension, to the rest of the UK. The Flow Room systems team are data-driven decision makers that work under pressure and influence senior stakeholders in an environment of trust, feedback, and openness, with an aim to continuously improve.
About the role
The Flow Room team monitor and control the APSS and system software in order to ensure that all key performance measures for system availability and efficiency are achieved. Working in the heartbeat of the operation, the team of flow room system managers will be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of parcels through the automated parcel sorting system (APSS) using the warehouse management systems (WMS), CCTV, and YMS so that operational KPIs and business SLAs are achieved.
You'll be the conduit between warehouse operations and the engineering team, co-ordinating engineers to faults and blockages, maximising the APSS availability though coordinating, and leading Continuous Improvement activities with senior stakeholders. You'll be responsible for making timely business critical decisions based upon the data feeding into the flow room, ensuring bottlenecks and single points of failures are adequately managed, ensuring all mail types are processed on time by instructing and influencing managers within the operation. You'll also manage Vehicle flow through the yard management system (YMS) to ensure that vehicle movements to dock are managed to maximise efficiency of internal flow, yard utilisation, and trailer utilisation.
About You
To be truly successful in this role, you’ll possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
* Experience of working in a flow or control room environment, or in an automated processing facility
* Customer focused and aware of the external and internal requirements for quality, efficiency, and accuracy
* Strong data analytic skills
* Experience of designing and maintaining system and flow or control room processes
* Experience working with SCADA & WMS
* Strong Excel & Microsoft Suite skills
* Ability to translate technical information to a non-technical audience
* Good understanding of Continuous Improvement principles
* Ability to influence and challenge in a positive style
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced automated environment
* Adaptable and receptive to new ideas from any source, and willing and able to adjust to changing demands and circumstances
* Skilled and intuitive in identifying solutions to problems, and able to uses the expertise, skills and experience of others as appropriate
* Independent, self-reliant, enthusiastic, and determined, able to demonstrate tenacity and the capacity for sustained effort and hard work over extended periods
