Overview

We are looking for a Band 6 clinician to join our highly skilled MDT based at The Laurels Gender Identity Clinic, in Exeter. We support Trans and non-binary adults to receive treatment tailored to their experiences of gender incongruence, offering specialist gender assessments and treatment plans, specific gender focused psychological therapy, speech and language therapy, specialist medical consultations, and surgical referrals. This is a specialist area offering unique care to a diverse population of clients. The work is interesting, rewarding, and can genuinely affect people s lives for the better. Main duties of the job

Clinical Gender Specialists (CGS) are clinicians who provide a defined level of specialist assessment, support, and access to interventions for transgender patients attending the Laurels. As a CGS you will work as part of the service to support patients in line with the NHS England national service specification. The role requires a clinician with specialist skills to assess patients needs, and formulate treatment plans within a multi-disciplinary framework. The role involves monitoring gender-affirming hormones for trans male, trans female and non-binary patients. Part of this will involve close liaison with GP practices anywhere in England, as the Laurels is a national service. Excellent communication skills are vital in this role.

Job responsibilities

As a CGS you will work as part of the service to support patients in line with the NHS England national service specification. The role requires a clinician with specialist skills to assess patients needs, and formulate treatment plans within a multi-disciplinary framework. The role involves monitoring gender-affirming hormones for trans male, trans female and non-binary patients. Part of this will involve close liaison with GP practices anywhere in England, as the Laurels is a national service. Excellent communication skills are vital in this role.

The post holder will be part of the team providing a service to patients and, on occasions their families, including direct and indirect clinical work. You will be required to support the Practice Lead and the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist in service development, and contribute to overall Clinical Governance of the service. You will demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision, where required, to junior team members and other professionals.

An essential criteria for this role is a willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery, including the Post Graduate Certificate in Gender Healthcare and/or the Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (for those who are registered nurses).


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Professional qualification (General/Mental Health/Learning Disability) to degree level or equivalent.
* Maintains current registration with NMC or relevant Professional body.
* Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery, including the Post Graduate Diploma in Gender Healthcare and/or the Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (for those who are registered nurses).

Desirable

* Non-Medical Prescriber.
* Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration.
* Training in transgender healthcare.
* Training in gender diversity.

Experience

Essential

* Experience of individual patient case management responsibility.
* Substantial experience of MDT working.
* Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.

Desirable

* Experience of clinical working with transgender and non-binary patients.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
