Installation & Service Engineer – Packaging Machinery
Location: Commutable to Hereford (UK-wide travel required)
Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 + overtime (£7k avg), £25 night away allowance, excellent benefits
About the Company
We are a leading distributor of mid-to-end-of-line (EOL) packaging machinery, supplying advanced solutions to major food industry clients across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Installation & Service Engineer to join our dynamic team.
The Role
As an Installation & Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and maintenance of packaging machinery at customer sites throughout the UK. You’ll work predominantly on electrical systems (approximately 70% electrical, 30% mechanical), but a strong multi-skilled background is essential.
When not on site, you will be based at our Hereford workshop supporting in-house projects and preparations.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, commission, and service packaging machinery on customer sites
* Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults
* Interpret and work from electrical diagrams and schematics
* Perform PLC fault finding and basic modifications
* Work on sensors, motors, gearboxes, and 3-phase machinery
* Provide technical support and training to customers as require
* Complete detailed service reports and documentation
Requirements
* Minimum NVQ (or equivalent) qualification in electrical engineering
* Strong experience in electrical fault finding and maintenance
* Experience working with PLCs (diagnostics and fault finding)
* Proficiency with electrical diagrams, sensors, motors, gearboxes, and 3-phase equipment
* Background in capital equipment or industrial machinery, ideally within packaging
* Flexibility to travel across the UK, with regular overnight stays (average 2 nights per week)
* Based within a commutable distance to Hereford (workshop presence expected during quieter periods)

* Overtime paid at time and a half (circa £7,000 average per year)
