Direct Payment Worker Required - Supporting a Young Person with Autism and a Passion for Animals and Crafting
We are seeking a motivated, and reliable Direct Payment Worker to support a creative and animal-loving young person with Autism and social anxiety. This role involves providing companionship, guidance, and practical support during outings and activities.
Hours
* Term Time: 3 hours per week (Saturday mornings)
* School Holidays: Up to 6 hours per week (to be worked alongside an existing support worker)
Location: Various community settings across East Riding, including beaches, farms, markets, and craft venues.
About the Young Person: This young person thrives in environments involving animals and creativity. They volunteer with dogs at the RSPCA, take horse riding lessons, and care for farm animals as part of their education. They enjoy crafting, especially crochet, macrame, felting, and jewellery making and have a unique fashion sense, often changing their hair colour.
They love visiting zoos, farms, theme parks, markets, and car boot sales, and enjoy walking their dog Louis at the beach. Cinema trips are also a favourite, with a preference for quieter seating and the use of ear defenders.
Due to Autism and social anxiety, they require adult support in public settings and do not use public transport. A car driver is essential for this role.
About You: We are looking for someone who:
* Is compassionate, engaging and approachable to help ease social discomfort.
* Shares a love for animals and is happy to walk the dog and visit animal-related venues.
* Is patient, understanding, and able to explain things logically.
* Can provide emotional support and help manage changes in routine with preparation and care.
* Is a car driver with access to a vehicle.
Requirements:
* Experience supporting individuals with Autism or similar needs is desirable.
* Must be reliable, compassionate, and able to build trust over time.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
Travel
Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
