Job Title: Day Opportunities Support Worker
Reports to: Day Opportunities Coordinator
Purpose of the job:
* To work co-operatively and effectively with the Day Opportunities Coordinator and other members of the day opportunities staff and volunteer team. Ensuring the provision of quality social and personal care for all day opportunities service users. In our centre, at home or in the community.
* To assume responsibility for the day to day running of day service in the absence of the Day Opportunities Coordinator.
* To work to and apply regulatory requirements as set by the Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Social Services Council.
* To promote QCCC principles of care within the organisation and wider community.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* To provide a comprehensive programme of high-quality activities, which are responsive to the individual needs of the service user.
* To assist in the planning, preparation, implementation and supervision of daily activities and taking the role of activity leader, when required.
* To ensure that the activity programme is implemented in consultation with service users, staff and volunteers.
* Seek at all times to enable service users to participate fully in planned activities.
* To ensure adequate cover in the event of staff and volunteer absence in conjunction with the Day Care Coordinator and General Manager.
* To assist with the day to day supervision of volunteers who are involved in day care.
* Promote service users’ independence, encouraging them to utilize external sources of support, service provision, information and advice.
* Fulfill the role of key worker for designated service users. To implement, monitor and review service users’ personal plans, ensuring agreed objectives are met. Liase with other team members and communicate any changes.
* To ensure all transport needs are appropriately organised.
* Fulfill the role as escort on the minibus, escorting service users to and from day care or on external outings.
* When required, to assist with the administration of prescribed medication in line with policy and guidelines.
* To assist service users with personal care needs, including continence management.
* To develop and maintain positive relationships with family and friends or significant others to assist in maintaining the service user’s personal skills, activities and relationships.
* To develop and maintain positive relationships with other care agencies and professionals e.g. Community Psychiatric Nurse, Social Worker etc.
* To collect monies for day care fees, as required.
* To purchase any daily provisions or activity materials as previously agreed with the Day Care Coordinator, ensuring all receipts are submitted for petty cash purposes.
* To assist with the maintenance of up-to-date records
* Maintain a safe, secure environment to ensure the safety and well-being of all associated with the service.
* Ensure that the day care rooms, storage areas and kitchen are safe for use, properly maintained and kept secure. This includes ensuring all equipment is clean and safe to use.
* To assist the Day Care Coordinator and Manager with the implementation and regular review of risk assessments.
* Understand and adhere to the standards required of individual policies detailed in the staff handbook and Policies and Procedures manual.
* Attend staff meetings and training as required.
* Be aware of and respond to safety issues related to Fire and Health and Safety Regulations and any other current legislation.
* To maintain confidentiality at all times.
* To act in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner.
* Carry out additional duties within the scope and spirit of the job as required by the General Manager.
Personal Development
* Participate in regular bi-monthly supervision sessions with the Day Care Coordinator.
* Undertake any training essential to your professional development in fulfilling your role as day care support worker as identified during supervision and annual development reviews.
Hours and Work Arrangement
Hours of work: 20.25 hrs p/w
Normal working hours
Wednesday 9.15am - 4.30pm
Thursday 9.15am - 4.30pm
Friday 9.15am - 4.30pm
What you will need
* Eligible to work in the UK
* Experience of working with older people in a care setting
* Experience within community work, social work or health sectors
* Ability to assess and provide flexible and responsive personal plans for service users
Desirable
* SVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
