Overview

Occupational Therapist role in Birmingham, England. Permanent, full-time position with Birmingham City Council (part of WMJobs postings).

Post includes a salary of £34,434 - £41,771 (Grade 4; consultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review). The post qualifies for a £1,000 golden handshake upon starting, plus a £5,000 retention bonus after a successful 12 months with the service. Working 36.5 hours per week.

We are looking for outstanding people to join us to deliver meaningful impact for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families. The Children’s Occupational Therapy Service supports independent living for children and young people and works in collaboration with partner services to reduce barriers to social inclusion.

The post holder will work within a team of professionals, providing needs assessments and recommendations to children and young people with disabilities, with a focus on safeguarding duties and managing thresholds and risks.

Responsibilities

* Provide needs assessments and recommendations for children and young people with disabilities to promote independent living.
* Collaborate with partner services to reduce barriers to social inclusion and meet aspirations of children, young people and families.
* Maintain a relentless focus on child protection, safeguarding duties, and management of thresholds and risks.
* Apply core therapeutic skills in child-centred care and expand specialist knowledge through ongoing professional development.
* Engage with families and professionals to deliver compassionate, high-standard services within community settings (home, school, etc.).


Qualifications and experience

* Qualified Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and young people or disabled individuals in professional or voluntary roles.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with up-to-date knowledge of key legislation and policies related to SEND and safeguarding.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and in partnership with other services.
