Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 5 Biomedical Scientist in a busy but friendly Haematology and Blood Transfusion department. Applications to join our team are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals with HCPC registration or those on target to qualify within the next six months and who also have both Haematology and Blood Transfusion experience. You will rotate through all the departmental sections and assist in the daily running of this busy department, undertaking duties appropriate to your band. The post holder will be required to participate in 24/7 shift rota and work across sites after appropriate training.

About the department and organisation
The Diagnostics and Pharmacy Group is part of the Northern Care Alliance (NCA), one of the largest NHS organisations in the country. The Laboratory philosophy is to promote best practice and provide a safe, quality service. The department is UKAS accredited and equipped with modern equipment, including recently installed Sysmex XN haematology analysers, CN coagulation analysers, Tosoh G11 HPLC for Haemoglobinopathy, and Ortho Vision for Blood Transfusion. A new laboratory information management system will be installed later in 2025.
The NCA serves The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, and other associated sites, with additional laboratories across the NCA and primary care services nearby. Active CPD participation and opportunities for further study are encouraged and supported.
