We are pleased to announce an opportunity to join the Training and Consultancy team at Ambipar as an Environmental Consultant. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both field and office environments and wants to play a key role in pollution response, environmental risk assessment, site investigation and remediation projects across the UK.
In this role, you will support and lead on a variety of environmental consultancy projects and support the continued growth of our consultancy services across the UK
Key Responsibilities (Summary)
* Attending emergency pollution incidents (fuel, oil, chemical and other spills) across the UK to provide specialist environmental advice to response teams and clients.
* Undertaking on-site preliminary qualitative environmental risk assessments and developing conceptual site models to support appropriate spill response actions.
* Liaising with key regulators such as Environment Agency, SEPA and Natural Resources Wales.
* Developing spill mitigation and remediation strategies, options appraisals and verification reports.
* Overseeing containment, clean up and remediation operations to ensure environmental compliance.
* Designing and managing Phase I and Phase II site investigations.
* Conducting soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring and interpretation of field and laboratory data.
* Preparing a range of environmental risk assessments including controlled waters risk assessments.
* Authoring high quality technical reports for clients and regulatory submission.
* Managing multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery meets time, quality and financial expectations.
* Maintaining strong client, stakeholder and regulator relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services.
* Preparing method statements, risk assessments, cost estimates, proposals and scopes of work.
* Contributing to the development and improvement of departmental systems and processes.
* Participating in Ambipar’s Incident Management Team during Tier 2 and Tier 3 marine incidents.
* Delivering internal training courses and providing mentorship to junior team members.
* Supporting the Commercial Team through the provision of technical input into proposals.
* Providing wider support to the Training & Consultancy Team and operational colleagues when required.
What we are looking for (Essential)
* Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field.
* 4–5 years’ experience in environmental consultancy, remediation or spill response.
* Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
* Proven experience in site investigation, water quality monitoring and contaminated land assessment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Willingness to travel UK wide, including overnight stays and occasional weekends during emergency response works.
What we are looking for (Desirable)
* Working toward or holding chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, CIWM, IES CEnv, REnvP).
* Hydrogeology or pollutant fate and transport modelling experience.
* IOSH or NEBOSH health and safety qualification.
* Previous experience working directly with UK environmental regulators.
