12 Month Contract With A Local Authority
To deliver a comprehensive environmental health service by investigating complaints, conducting inspections, enforcing relevant legislation, and providing specialist advice. The role supports the Council's objectives to maintain a clean, green, and safe environment across the Borough.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate complaints, nuisances, accidents, and environmental health matters.
* Carry out inspections and surveys across areas such as food safety, pollution, housing, health and safety, environmental crime, and anti-social behaviour.
* Take appropriate enforcement action to ensure compliance with statutory duties and Council policies.
* Provide advice and guidance to the public, external agencies, and internal stakeholders.
* Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical data using relevant systems.
* Collect and manage data submissions to external and government bodies where required.
* Prepare evidence for legal proceedings and represent the Council in court, tribunals, or hearings.
* Liaise and collaborate with external partners including local authorities, police, fire services, and government agencies.
* Contribute to planning, licensing consultations, and strategic service initiatives.
* Support health promotion initiatives, campaigns, and educational programmes.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and internal policies.
Requirements
* EHORB registration (or working towards) or equivalent qualification.
* Experience in environmental health enforcement and applying regulatory powers.
* Strong understanding of investigation processes and evidence gathering.
* Ability to interpret complex information and make sound professional judgements.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong IT proficiency.
* Ability to manage workloads independently and meet deadlines.
* Experience dealing with challenging or sensitive public interactions.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Desirable: experience in multi-disciplinary working, court proceedings, surveillance, and use of monitoring equipment.
Additional Information
* Location: Rugby Borough Council (hybrid working available, with office and field-based duties)
* Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible between 8:00am – 6:00pm, with occasional evenings/weekends)
* Working Pattern: Combination of office-based work and site visits/inspections
* Pay: Bi-weekly payments
* Pay (Umbrella – per inspection): Category A: £95
