Senior software engineer ii (full stack) - release management team

London
Release manager
Posted: 8 November
Offer description

About the role: Samsara’s Release Management team is responsible for how features are created, gated, and delivered to both internal stakeholders and external customers. We build the systems and tooling that product managers and engineers use to move features through their lifecycle from internal visibility to beta, early adopters, and general availability (GA). We also power the customer-facing release management experience, where each customer can view available features, discover new capabilities, opt-in and self-serve access to early releases. Our work spans features and feature flag management, feature gating, and the infrastructure that ensures features are launched safely, reliably, and with the right visibility for every audience. As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the Release Management team, you will design and build the internal tools and customer-facing experiences that make feature lifecycles safe, scalable, and transparent. You will collaborate across product and engineering teams to ensure features are discoverable, gated appropriately, and delivered with minimal risk, while also shaping how customers interact with and adopt new features. We build with Golang on the backend and React on the frontend, but what matters most is your experience working across the full stack. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the UK or Poland. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely. You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations. You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go. You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes. You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together. In this role, you will: Lead the design and development of internal and customer-facing systems that power feature visibility, gating, and lifecycle progression. Own and evolve the architecture of multiple services that underpin release management, balancing near-term delivery with long-term scalability Work with data and storage systems to ensure release states, feature flags, and customer-facing visibility are tracked and reliable at scale. Collaborate with product managers and engineering leadership to influence roadmaps and set multi-quarter plans for release lifecycle tooling. Drive cross-team initiatives that improve feature discoverability, adoption, and reliability for customers. Mentor and guide engineers across the team, raising the bar on technical design, execution, and code quality. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices Minimum requirements for the role: 8 years of relevant industry experience in software development Strong programming and system design fundamentals Experience owning and evolving large-scale enterprise applications or platforms Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives and influencing roadmaps Demonstrated ability to balance business and technical priorities to deliver long-term impact Full-stack engineering expertise, with experience building scalable backend services and intuitive web applications Proven track record of mentoring and elevating peers and teams An ideal candidate also has: Experience setting architectural direction and defining multi-quarter technical plans Familiarity with release systems, feature flagging/gating, and phased rollouts at scale Experience with distributed systems and data platforms to ensure reliability and auditability A track record of shipping high-quality features and platforms that significantly improved customer experience and adoption Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence organizational priorities with clear technical rationale Experience mentoring and developing engineers to raise team capacity and maturity
