Main Purpose of Job
To provide education, care, and supervision for children in an early years setting.
To plan, prepare, and deliver early learning activities that meet children’s individual needs and support their development.
Position in Organisation
You will report directly to the Senior Early Years Practitioner.
You will have no direct or indirect line management responsibility.
Main Accountabilities
You will support the effective day-to-day running of the setting by:
* Contributing to the delivery of early years curriculum, operational plans, and procedures
* Providing high-quality care, supervision, and support for all children
* Working in partnership with primary schools to support smooth transitions between learning stages
* Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and OFSTED requirements are followed at all times
* Maintaining accurate records and completing required documentation
* Using resources efficiently and supporting cost-effective service delivery
* Promoting positive behaviour, inclusion, equality, and diversity
* Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents, carers, schools, and external agencies
* Attending staff meetings, planning sessions, and training as required
* Supporting promotional activities and community engagement
* Working flexibly across Children’s Centres and early years settings when required
* Undertaking any other duties necessary to support the smooth running of the service
Person Specification – Early Years Practitioner
Experience
You must have experience working with children in an early years setting. This is essential.
Experience working in partnership with other organisations is desirable.
Experience working in a multicultural community is also desirable.
Knowledge
You must have knowledge of early years principles, practice, and safeguarding legislation. This is essential.
You must also understand and be committed to equal opportunities and inclusive practice. This is essential.
Skills and Abilities
You must be able to manage your time effectively and work in an organised way.
You must be confident in communicating, listening, and recording information clearly.
You must be able to follow policies and procedures in line with OFSTED requirements.
You should be able to work well with others, build positive relationships, and influence where appropriate.
You must be able to use resources efficiently and work within budget expectations.
You must be flexible to work early mornings, evenings, and occasionally weekends.
You must have the physical ability to carry out early years tasks, including lifting and active engagement with children.
You must be able to think quickly, solve problems, and apply knowledge effectively.
All of the above are essential requirements.
Qualifications
You must hold a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Practice or an equivalent qualification. This is essential.
You must also show a commitment to ongoing professional development and further training.
