What You Will Do *
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Thermal Design Engineer will be key in the development of new heat exchangers for Civil, Military and Development projects. The will work with multiple functions to develop the optimal product solution for each customers requirements.
1. Size heat exchangers using in-house developed Excel based macros and Python software which apply principles of heat transfer and fluid mechanics with working fluids such as air, oil, fuel, water and refrigerants
2. Carry out hand calculations to support on the spot what-if heat exchanger design or flow condition variability effect on performance and pressure drop
3. Use of Star CCM+ to simulate heat exchanger conjugate heat transfer to provide local temperatures and pressures in support of thermal fatigue analysis
4. Write test specifications and work with Test Engineers to perform validation tests
5. Conduct thorough analyses of incidents, defects, or failures to determine the root cause
6. Create, maintain, and distribute technical material, including but not limited to, reports, best practice guidelines, design review documents, internal training, and journal/conference papers
7. Work closely with customers and stakeholders to present analyses and designs within a timely manner
8. Lead and manage technical engagements and collaborations
Qualifications You Must Have *
9. Qualifications: Minimum Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a numerate discipline (Maths/Physics, etc)
10. Experience in modelling flow and conjugate heat transfer in Star CCM+
11. Experience programming in Python
12. Computer literacy in MS Office software suite and strong ability working with complex Excel based calculations
13. Strong analytical skills with a good level of technical understanding, ability to effectively interface technically with a wide range of professionally qualified external and internal business disciplines.
14. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work well independently as well as within a team.
15. Knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics is essential with experience in multiphase flow or vapor cycle component analysis being desirable.
Qualifications We Prefer
16. Experience within the aerospace or automotive industries
17. Experience using and programming in Excel VBA
18. Experience in the use of Siemens NX or other commercial CAD tools
19. Registration with a professional engineering organisation (e.g. CEng or IEng, IMechE or RAeS)
20. Experience in coaching and reviewing the work of less experienced engineers
