Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist | Spire Dunedin, Reading | Private Hospital | Full time |\n\nSpire Dunedin have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our welcoming Oncology team, working full time hours on a permanent basis. \n\nThis is the perfect opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their career as the successful applicant will be a part of a dedicated, supportive and friendly team.\n\nYou will work closely with the Chemotherapy Manager, Consultants and Nurses and the community palliative care team along with other supportive care workers.\n\nActing as a role model for Spire Healthcare, the successful candidate will be responsible to, and supported by the senior nurses. The post holder will be a member of the team that assess and safely administer SACT treatments and provide information and support to patients undergoing anti-cancer treatment.
\n\nDuties & Responsibilities:\n\nProvide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment\nEnsure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing SACT\nUse advanced history taking and assessment skills to assess health, health related and nursing needs of patients, taking into consideration the needs of their families and carers. Identify and initiate appropriate steps for effective care. \nManage a patient caseload, ensuring patients' holistic needs are met and continually re-evaluated, as necessitated by changes in their health/health deterioration\nTriage unwell SACT patients using UKONS triage assessment tool, advise re symptoms/prescribe medication, arrange investigations or hospital admission - in accordance with consultant advice.\nProvide out-of-hours support and triage for patients who develop acute treatment complications.\nDemonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery\nPractice intermediate life support to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate ongoing management of patients who develop treatment complications.\nEnsure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/treatments, contributing to the process of informed consent.\nManagement of direct patient care and to be responsible for a clinical caseload and safely administer SACT\nEnsure smooth patient pathway by liaising with external health and support teams as required eg community palliative care, GPs, DNs, hospital AOS, dieticians, medical secretaries etc\nEvaluate and assess patients and their family's needs and treat, support and refer as appropriate.Who we're looking for:\n\nRegistered Nurse with valid NMC registration with no restrictions or conditions.\nExtensive knowledge and experience of working within oncology/haematology services and the administration of SACT\nHold an accredited SACT administration course\nHold an accredited chemotherapy and counselling course certificate\nCompetency in the UKONS 24 Hour triage Tool\nPost registration course within cancer care\nExcellent communication, organisational & IT skills, with the ability to organise work around competing demands on time\nAbility to work with minimal supervision.Working Hours: Full Time 37.5hrs per week\n\nContract Type: Permanent, Full time\n\nBenefits:\n\nWe offer employed colleagues a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package which includes but is not limited to:\n\n35 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays\nEmployer and employee contributory pension with flexible retirement options\n'Spire for you' reward platform - discount and cashback for over 1000 retailers\nPrivate medical insurance\nLife insuranceOur Values:\n\nWe are extremely proud of our heritage in private healthcare and of our values as an organisation:\n\nDriving clinical excellence\nDoing the right thing\nCaring is our passion\nKeeping it simple\nDelivering on our promises\nSucceeding and celebrating togetherWe commit to our employee's well-being through work life balance, on-going development, support and reward.\n\nFor further information about this role or for an informal conversation about the range of career options available with Spire please contact Alison Roberts on \n\nClosing Date: If we have received sufficient applications, we reserve the right to close this vacancy without further notice, so please submit your application as soon as possible
