Job overview
As head of Capital and part of the Estates Directorate Senior team, the Head of Capital will provide strong and inspirational leadership to promote the provision of excellent Estates Services and in particular services provided by the Capital Team in complex, acute and Community settings in one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the country
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be accountable to the Estates Director and will deliver the interpretation of National directives, broad Department of Health and Social Care Policies, legal requirements such as the Building Safety Act, and Trust priorities within the Capital Management function.
The post holder will be responsible for assisting with the development of the Trust’s Capital Programme where this impacts directly or indirectly on the built environment and the broader estate.
The post holder will be accountable for delivering the Estates Capital Programme portfolio across all of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, including Community premises. This includes major capital schemes, maintenance backlog schemes and compliance schemes.
The post holder will be responsible for leading the delivery of all Estates related schemes within Trust’s Capital programme and for ensuring that these are delivered to agreed budgets, time and quality, comply with legal requirements such as the Building Safety Act and are appropriately managed to recognised methodologies, patient focused, safe, efficient and effective.

Education and Qualifications
* Masters degree or equivalent job related experience
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* In depth professional knowledge in a number of disciplines eg financial management, operational management and information systems and staff management
* Managing successful programs (MSP), Practitioner or Management of Portfolio (MoP)
* Improvement methodologies such as LEAN
* Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM), or equivalent.
Experience
* Detailed knowledge of and demonstrable experience in the application of best practice programme and project management methodologies preferably using MSP framework
* Experience of program prioritisation and resource allocation preferably using the MSP framework
* Experience of managing major capital projects and knowledge of operational estates functions within large and complex organisations
* Extensive experience at a Senior Management level at a large complex organisation, preferably within the NHS.
* Understanding of sustainability principles and ability to integrate NHS Net Zero targets and environmental considerations into capital planning and delivery
* Managing and implementing change at a Senior level
* Information and/or financial management and analysis of complex financial data
* Experience of managing and development of a multidisciplinary team
* Intellectual flexibility that enables the reasoned assessment of a situation and the ability to draw pragmatic conclusions.
* Experience of developing alliances and partnerships within organisations
* Familiarity with digital estate management systems such as CAFM, Building Information Modelling (BIM), to support efficient planning and asset management.
