Job Title: Fire Safety Advisor

Trust: Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Royal Berkshire Hospital, London Road, Reading RG1 5AN

Shift Pattern: Monday –Friday 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm

Pay: £27.98

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Fire Safety Advisor to join our Estates and Facilities team at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. This is a key role that ensures the safety of our patients, staff, and visitors across all Trust sites.

About the Trust:

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest general hospital foundation trusts in the country and the main provider of acute and specialist care services for West Berkshire. With seven sites, the Trust employs approximately 6,500 staff and serves a population of around 1,000,000 people.

Job Duties

· Develop and maintain the Trust’s Fire Safety Policy and Code of Practice

· Lead annual Fire Risk Assessments and ensure remedial actions are implemented

· Chair Fire Safety Group meetings and liaise with Fire Safety Authorising Engineer and Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service

· Support departments with Local Evacuation and Emergency Plans (LEEPs) and training

· Oversee post-incident reviews and implement lessons learned

· Provide expert fire safety advice for new builds and refurbishments

· Monitor fire compliance through audits, KPIs, and the Trust’s Datix system

· Act as Appointed Person (Fire) and manage fire permits

· Supervise and lead the Fire Safety team

· Implement requirements under The Building Safety Act 2022 and liaise with the Building Safety Regulator

What we’re looking for:

· Demonstrable experience in fire safety management within a complex organisation

· In-depth knowledge of fire safety legislation including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

· Strong leadership, communication and report-writing skills

· A relevant fire safety qualification (e.g., Level 4 (HNC) qualification, NEBOSH Fire, IFE, or similar)

· Ability to influence at all levels and promote a positive fire safety culture

· Experience managing fire incidents and audits in healthcare or large estates is highly desirable

· This role is based on-site and may require travel across Trust locations
