What we’re looking for from you to join our team
A Gas Engineers Mate to assist the gas engineer to carry out repairs and maintenance to customer homes in a safe and proper manner, ensuring works are completed to a consistently high standard and providing our customers with the best possible experience of customer service. You will also contribute to an efficient and effective service as a member of the Gas Compliance team, creating an enjoyable work environment and fostering teamwork among trade and office staff.
Core skills needed for a successful role
* Experience of working in a building environment and completing repair work in occupied homes
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and/or Codes of Practice (e.g., Construction, Building Regulations, Health & Safety)
* Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact effectively with homeowners, external agencies, and office staff
* Ability to plan and prioritise to ensure effective use of own time
* Commitment to providing a high‑quality service to all customers
* Ability to form and maintain good working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
* Excellent communication skills across multiple channels, including Teams and face‑to‑face interactions
Advantageous skills or knowledge (not essential)
* Gas Safe Registered (CCN 1, CPA 1, CEN/WAT, HTR1)
* Ability to complete gas documentation (e.g., LGSRs) on a PDA device
* Familiarity with PDA and other electronic devices
* Experience working in repairs and maintenance within housing services
* Extensive proven experience of repairs and maintenance, particularly breakdowns
* Sound practical knowledge and experience of gas works
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
* Ability to work in an agile work environment
