Within this dual role you will be expected to:
Take the lead in developing and running a portfolio of radiotherapy trials with the support of the oncology trials unit research team.
Organise the workload relating to radiotherapy trials and take responsibility for the training of therapy radiographers and other health care professionals in a variety of settings.
Clinically as a radiographer being legally responsible and accountable for your professional actions, ensuring that proper authorisation in accordance with established criteria has been met, and that the treatment will be of benefit to the patient.
Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times for staff, patients and visitors to the department.
Exhibit a high standard of personal integrity and professional demeanour, maintaining strict patient confidentiality at all times, thereby justifying public trust and confidence.
Ensure at all times the effective delivery and verification of radiotherapy treatment and that you and other Radiographers are fully compliant with IR(ME)R regulations governing the use of ionizing radiation.
Maintain the appropriate competencies relating to treatment techniques, equipment, patient care, communication skills, innovation and manual dexterity.
Undertake working hours to suit the demands of the service including weekends, evenings and across more than one site.
Main duties of the job
Planning and Design
Responsible for the safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy by taking an active role in the assessment and evaluation of planning and verification treatment volumes, and the calculation of treatment sheets.
Improvement, Monitoring, Policy/Service Development
Required to keep up to date with policy developments especially in Welsh Government and NIHR (UK).
Communication
Interpret complicated treatment plans and calculations.
Communicates highly specialised and complex information regarding treatment
Management, Training & Leadership
Act as an autonomous practitioner at all times.
Deputise in the absence of the lead radiographer.
Finance and Budget
Responsible for reporting defective equipment to relevant department.
Observe personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in course of work.
Advise where appropriate on the cost recovery required for commercial trial resource allocation.
Digital and Information
Accurately input, retrieve and maintain patient and treatment details from a range of computer systems, enabling research, audits and statistical data to be completed.
Research Development. Evaluation & Audit
Responsible for the delivery of allocated research studies. Oversee studies allocated to band 5 research staff.
Ensure that the delivery of studies meet requirements with regards to the UK policy framework for health and social care research and the EU Clinical Trials Directive by implementing quality systems.

Aptitude and Ability
Essential criteria
1. Ability to communicate complicated information to patients\ carers \ members of MDT regarding clinical trials.
Desirable criteria
2. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.

Essential criteria
3. Demonstrates evidence of Health Board values.
Desirable criteria
4. Experience in supporting Oncology Clinical Trials.
Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
5. BSC(HONS) or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR(T).
Desirable criteria
6. Evidence of CPD and post graduate learning.
Skills

7. Ability to operate a wide range of Radiotherapy Equipment. Treating patients both in and out of the trial setting
Desirable criteria
8. Knowledge of research legislation, GCP and the National Framework. Knowledge of advanced radiotherapy developments.
