Regulated Water Lead Engineer
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading Consultancies operating at the forefront of the regulated water sector. With an established reputation for technical excellence, innovation and influence across major water programmes, the organisation is seeking an experienced Regulated Water Lead Engineer to take a pivotal role in shaping the future of resilient, sustainable water infrastructure.
The role offers a unique platform for a senior water professional to lead some of the most complex and high-profile regulated water projects in the UK. Working across the full project lifecycle, the successful candidate will drive delivery from early feasibility and strategic optioneering through to detailed design, implementation support and project completion. This position combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic influence, offering real scope to shape solutions, guide teams and make a lasting impact on the water sector.
A defining feature of the role is its focus on resilience and long-term water management. The Regulated Water Lead Engineer will support clients in responding to some of the sector's most pressing challenges, including climate change adaptation, flood and drought risk, water resource security, asset performance and regulatory change. Projects are approached from a whole-system perspective, integrating engineering, environmental and operational considerations to deliver solutions that are robust, adaptable and future-ready.
The role carries responsibility for leading multi-disciplinary teams, setting technical direction, and ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. This includes ownership of technical scopes, design development and review, governance and assurance processes, and the application of Safety in Design principles throughout delivery. Strong commercial awareness is essential, with responsibility for managing budgets, programmes, risk and change, alongside maintaining trusted client relationships.
Work-winning is a key element of the position, with the successful candidate playing an influential role in bids and proposals for major regulated water commissions. This includes shaping technical strategies, developing innovative methodologies and contributing to compelling, value-led solutions that respond to evolving client and regulatory drivers. The Consultancy actively encourages innovation, digital delivery and continuous improvement, and the role provides the freedom and support to push boundaries and introduce new ways of working.
Beyond project delivery, this role offers the chance to be a visible leader within a highly regarded water team. The Regulated Water Lead Engineer will mentor and develop engineers at all stages of their careers, contribute to capability growth, and help set the technical and cultural direction of the water practice. The position is well suited to someone who enjoys combining technical depth with leadership, influence and collaboration.
Applicants will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and will be a Chartered Engineer or actively progressing toward professional accreditation. Significant experience within the regulated water sector is essential, alongside a strong understanding of water and wastewater infrastructure, regulatory frameworks and resilience-led planning. The successful candidate will bring confidence, credibility and a passion for delivering work that genuinely matters.
The Consultancy offers a flexible and supportive working environment, exceptional professional development opportunities, and the chance to work alongside industry-leading experts on projects that shape communities, protect the environment and strengthen critical water infrastructure. For the right individual, this is a genuinely rare opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role within one of the most respected water Consultancies in the sector.
