Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant in General Gastroenterology. We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Consultant with strong clinical leadership skills and a passion for driving improvement in gastroenterology to join our friendly, forward-looking, and high-performing team. A subspecialist interest in an area of gastroenterology is desirable, though not essential. This is a 10 PA role that is based at Newham University Hospital (NUH).

The post will be supporting inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care. You will join a dedicated and diverse team delivering high-quality health services to one of the UK's most ethnically varied populations. The role also includes endoscopy and general gastroenterology clinics.

Main duties of the job

There is no commitment to the GIM on-call rota. The successful applicant will participate in the GI bleed out-of-hours rota at Newham. The department strives to achieve a collective work ethos to help to maintain long term sustainability to work-life balance. Office space and secretarial support will be available. The post holder will support the delivery of gastroenterology consultant of the week which will involve review of in-patients and administrative work including referrals and vetting of requests. During this time routine clinical activity is cancelled.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to clinical governance, audit, and departmental management, and to support the ongoing development and improvement of clinical pathways.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining their CCT at the time of interview. Newly appointed consultants will be supported by a structured mentoring programme and will be encouraged to contribute to teaching, research, and service development. Job responsibilities

Day to day clinical care of inpatients on base ward Lead daily board rounds and twice weekly MDMs on base ward Daily review of new and sick patients on base ward Undertake administrative work relevant to your clinical commitment Participation in departmental teaching, clinical governance and service development Cover for colleagues during periods of absence and flexibility to work across all clinical areas as needed Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate training Commitment to maintaining personal CPD Engagement with Trust requirements for appraisal and revalidation


Person Specification


Qualifications

* CCT in Gastroenterology and G(IM) or within 6 months of obtaining same
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCP or Equivalen
* oHigher Research Degree


Experience

* Independent in colonoscopy and polypectomy
* Broad experience in Gastroenterology clinics and ward work
* Evidence of specialist endoscopy skills and knowledge


Knowledge

* Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
* Detailed knowledge of Gastroenterology and of the specialist skills required for this post
* Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients


Skills

* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team - clinical and management
* Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
* Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
* Diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI and lower GI endoscopy with evidence of KPIs
* Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
